Program Overview

The Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge (U of L) provides a supportive and creative learning community that promotes artistic expression and enhances technical development through hands-on experiences and academic courses. Professors are nationally and internationally recognized artists, performers, researchers and scholars - students learn from leaders in their fields.

The Faculty of Fine Arts offers four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees with majors in Art Studio, Art History/Museum Studies, Drama Performance, Theatre Studies, Theatre Technical/Design, New Media and Multidisciplinary as well as a four-year Bachelor of Music degree with majors in Music and Digital Audio Arts.

Highlights

New Bachelor of Music in Digital Audio Arts (DAA), the only undergraduate degree of its kind in Western Canada, explores music theory, history, composition, and performance combining the art and science of music production and sound recording technologies
BFA Art History/Museum Studies students gain practical experience curating professional art exhibitions and working with the extensive U of L Art Collection
BFA New Media students are exposed to a broad spectrum of new media opportunity internships with design, web and gaming companies, music video producers and educational institutions across Canada and in Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii

Buildings & Facilities

U of L overlooks the Old Man River in Lethbridge, about two hours south of Calgary, Alberta Canada. The 8,200 students enjoy full Internet access with free e-mail for life, convenient computer labs, and study centres, open 24 hours.

The Centre for the Arts houses new media, music, drama, and art facilities including black-box and proscenium arch theatres, recital hall, art galleries, music practice studios, dance studios, and design workshops. Senior art majors have the privilege of their own studio space.

The newest facilities in the Centre of the Arts are world-class recording studios/labs to support the Digital Audio Arts major.
