Currently there are over 100 4-year universities in Canada, varying in size and programs offered. There are also over 150 community colleges, university colleges and institutes that that offer a variety of career-oriented post-secondary 1-, 2- and 3- year diploma and certificate programs, along with university transfer programs.
There are both English language and French language institutions with some institutions offering instruction in both official languages. Each institution has its own character – some are large, research-intensive institutions located in major urban areas; others are small, liberal arts or career oriented institutions. Many offer full-time and part-time enrolment as well as opportunities to participate in co-operative education, distance learning, continuing education and student exchange programs.
